What is a good yearbook?

Topic overview

This topic observes the qualities of what distinguishes a good yearbook from a not-so-good yearbook.

Thought in design

A good yearbook is extremely engaging and has details that most people will glance over. Everything in a good yearbook has been thoroughly thought through, from photo placement to captions. The less the audience is distracted by strange choices in proximity, colour, type, or layout, the better.

Variety

However, if a yearbook is too consistent, it may become bland easily. A good yearbook keeps the reader excited. Reward readers that spend hours reading the yearbook with meticulously designed pages and error-free writing.

Theme

A good yearbook has a good theme that is well implemented throughout the book. A majority of the writing should be able to reference the theme of the yearbook, in any way shape or form.

Well-documented

A problem that plagues many yearbooks is the narrow range of students actually photographed throughout the yearbook. A good yearbook would be well-balanced and wouldn't have any bias in the final photos that end up in the book.

Writing and captions should also be descriptive and again, would attempt to tie in with the theme of the yearbook.
